Write the Stories that Sound like You:

a writing workshop for tender-hearted women.

Your stories matter.

Give yourself permission to write them down.

If you're thinking Oh, this isn't for me, because I'm not a writer, then this is the first revision I suggest you make.

Writing down your stories, from your body, and allowing anything that arises to make it to the page — that's an entirely different writing experience from writing school papers.

If your college-ruled lined paper had holes in it, because you erased so many words before you finished the sentence, then you might need this workshop.

We'll gather on Zoom. We'll talk for a bit, and then I'll teach you a small craft technique to wake up your writing.

We'll read examples of startling stories together.

I'll teach you how to write from your body—first thought, best thought—and trust what arises from the prompt I give you.

We'll write together, microphones off.

You might write sentences you did not know were inside of you until you see them on the page.

And then, we share what we wrote. Only if you want, of course. No one is required to read aloud.

Those of you who do read? Each of us will offer one line or image we loved.

No other critiques. We support each other.

And then I'll talk about developing this as a practice in your life, so you keep writing your stories.

Storyteller and guide

Shauna James Ahern

I’m a storyteller, teacher, and a post-menopausal woman who wants to guide you to understanding your own stories.

I've been studying the heroic journey since I first read Joseph Campbell’s work in the early 1980s and watched The Power of Myth in 1989.

I've published 5 award-winning books, full of stories with a purpose.

And, as a teacher and Buddhist practitioner, I feel deep joy in introducing women—in their 40s, 50s, and beyond—to the story structure at the heart of all powerful storytelling.

I've been saying yes to my Tender-Hearted Warrior journey for decades now.

I will be your guide.

This is an inclusive place of connection and compassion. No judgments.

I hope that you will start to understand that writing down your stories—as you lived them—matters as a mindful practice.
