90-minute workshop, live + online | Sunday, July 13th, @ 1 PM, Pacific
feed your joy
A one-time writing workshop for women who feel the weight of the world and need to find their joy.
You’ve been holding
too much.
Everywhere we look, there is another blow: Families torn apart. Benefits stripped from people who need them most. A president who celebrates violence and wealth while we’re all just trying to keep food on the table.
If your chest hurts from reading the news,
if your shoulders are tight with dread,
if you wake up already tired, wondering how you’ll carry it all again today—
you are not alone.
And still, there are moments of joy.
Write about them.
A bowl of ripe cherries.
The hush of early morning light.
The warmth of your cat curled up beside you.
The pen in your hand, moving.
Joy doesn't cancel out the horror.
However, when powerful people are trying to steal the joy of those they don’t like, your joy becomes an act of defiance.
A reclamation. A remembering of your own humanity.
"Shauna’s workshop helped me find my love for words again and remember why I enjoyed writing. Shauna creates a wonderful supportive space for you to explore and play with your own stories and ideas. There was just enough structure that I felt like I learned something and got some practical tools, but without the pressure of “traditional” workshops. I feel like I’ve already become a better writer, and discovered so many things about myself that I didn’t know I needed to write down. What a beautiful gift!"

What is the Feed Your Joy workshop?
A spacious, 90-minute online writing workshop for women who want to write from the body—not to perform, but to return.
To the warmth.
The weirdness.
The joy.
In the middle of everything—the clatter of dishes, the noise of the world, the hum of everyone else’s needs—there are small, luminous moments:
A clutch of small pink carnations.
A fleeting smile.
A breath of fresh air.
The joy of being alive, even if only for a second.
This workshop is about paying attention to those glimmers.
Because whatever we pay attention to blooms.
I keep the circle small—just 25 women—so there’s space to breathe and be.
What will we do together?
Here’s what’s we'll be doing.
Gather.
We’ll gather in an online circle of women to write about our weird little joys: the forgotten delights, and the odd enthusiasms that light us from the inside.
Connect with:
A short, sensory-focused teaching
A few short readings to stir something awake
A meditative writing prompt
Unhurried time to write
The option to share (only if you choose)
A gentle sense of belonging, just for showing up
Receive.
This doesn’t have to end after 90 minutes. After the workshop, you’ll receive a set of follow-up prompts to keep you writing about your joys.
Space is limited.
I keep these circles cozy—no more than 25 women —so there’s space to breathe and be.
This workshop is for you if…
You’ve been carrying so much you have forgotten how to pause
You miss the sound of your own voice on the page
You don’t consider yourself a “writer,” but you love stories and words
You want a moment of stillness in good company
You’re ready to remember what brings you joy
You'll walk away with:
Hi there!
I'm Shauna James Ahern.
I’ve been teaching writing for 30 years and practicing mindfulness for nearly as long. I’ve written five books—including the James Beard Award–winning Gluten-Free Girl Every Day and ENOUGH: Notes from a Woman Who Has Finally Found It. My work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and other places that once felt impossible.
But what matters more? I know what it feels like to forget your joy.
I was diagnosed with ADHD at 55. I’m a neurodivergent woman in midlife, just like so many of you. And I’ve learned that writing—not for perfection, but for presence—is one of the clearest paths back to myself.
I created this workshop to help you find your way back too.
Let’s write about what’s glimmering in your life. You don’t need to be a “writer.” You just need to show up.

Perfect. This one’s made for you.
Working with Shauna has been the source of a major, radical healing and re-framing of my thoughts over these last few years. My negative self-talk has slowly shrunken up. It’s no longer the radio station I am listening to most of the time.
I’m so grateful.
